Today’s post is a big one! It includes those releases and updates that have come out since May 11, 2020, including the launch of multiple database distributions and service offerings, updates to Percona Server for MySQL and Percona Backup for MongoDB, and a new Security Threat Tool in Percona Monitoring and Management to help spot and solve potential security issues.

 

Percona Monitoring and Management 2.6.0

On May 11, 2020, Percona Monitoring and Management 2.6.0 was released, a free and open-source platform for managing and monitoring MySQL, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL performance. There are many improvements in this release, including improved stability of MongoDB Exporter, an upgrade to use Grafana 6.7, Ubuntu 20.04 support, and a technical preview of new integration (new command) with hundreds of third-party systems through the Prometheus protocol. In addition, there is a new Security Threat Tool that allows you to run regular database security checks across all of your database servers, helping you quickly identify and mitigate common security risks.

Percona Backup for MongoDB 1.2.0

On May 13, 2020, Percona Backup for MongoDB 1.2.0 was released. New features and improvements include the ability to delete old backups, s2 is set as the default compression mechanism, and periodic backup progress messages added to pbm-agent logs. Also, bug PBM-451: Resync didn’t work if storage type was set to filesystem was fixed.

Percona Server for MySQL 5.6.48-88.0

Also on May 13, 2020, Percona Server for MySQL 5.6.48-88.0 was released. It includes all the features and bug fixes available in MySQL 5.6.48 Community Edition in addition to enterprise-grade features developed by Percona. Several bugs were fixed, including when the tokubackup process exported an incorrect API (preventing large file backups), and where in Ubuntu 20.04, only python3-mysqldb was available. We converted the MTR tests to support both Python2 and Python3. For a full list, see the release notes.

Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL 11.7

May 15, 2020 we released Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL 11.7, a collection of tools based on PostgreSQL 11.7. Starting from May 15, 2020, this release includes improvements to simplify the upgrade to the major version of Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL.

Percona Distribution for MongoDB 4.2

May 15, 2020 saw the premiere release of Percona Distribution for MongoDB 4.2. It is a collection of solutions (Percona Server for MongoDB and Percona Backup for MongoDB) to run and operate your MongoDB efficiently with the data being consistently backed up.  Percona Distribution for MongoDB also works with Percona Kubernetes Operator for MongoDB to support cloud-native applications. The Operator delivers consistent and easy to reproduce environments, easing rollout concerns.

Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL 12.2

Also on May 15, 2020, we released the updated version of Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL 12.2. Following on our initial PostgreSQL Distribution released in September 2019, this update incorporates the new features of PostgreSQL 12.2 Core Distribution, including a security boost with new encryption and authentication options and enhanced partitioning control through support for foreign keys in partitions and faster partition pruning. Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL provides companies with the tools, add-ons, and extensions they require in a single package.

Percona Server for MongoDB 3.6.18-5.0

And finally, on May 19, 2020, Percona Server for MongoDB 3.6.18-5.0 was released, supporting MongoDB 3.6.18 protocols and drivers. Starting from this release, Percona Server for MongoDB supports LDAP Authorization. Please note the limitations of LDAP Authorization in Percona Server for MongoDB in the release notes.
