We’re announcing an upcoming update to our repository management system to ensure you receive the most timely updates and benefit from improved efficiency.
Effective July 1st, 2024, we’ll be streamlining our repository structure on repo.percona.com. We’ll no longer be updating the original/percona and tools repositories, which include packages for EOL versions of Percona Server for MySQL, Percona XtraBackup, Percona XtraDB Cluster, Percona Monitoring and Management, and ProxySQL.
Below you can see products and repositories that should be enabled:
- Percona-toolkit – pt repository
- Proxysql – proxysql repository
- Pmm2-client – pmm2-client repository
- Percona-xtrabackup-24 – pxb24 repository
- Percona-xtrabackup-80 – pxb-80 repository
The full list of our packaging repositories can be found here: repo.percona.com.
Why the change?
- End-of-life products: The vast majority of packages in these repositories have reached their end-of-life and no longer receive updates or support. Transitioning to dedicated repositories ensures you have access to actively supported products.
- Dedicated product repositories: Dedicated repositories allow for more focused maintenance and timely updates for each product, allowing us to deliver new releases faster.
- Improved efficiency: Maintaining legacy repositories consumes a significant portion of our deployment time and brings little to no value to our users. This change streamlines processes and reduces deployment times allowing our team to focus on bringing more value to the community with other tasks.
What this means for you:
- Continued updates: We strongly recommend transitioning to the dedicated packaging repositories for the latest updates and continued support.
- Migration process:
- Identify any dependencies on packages from the original/percona and tools repositories within your projects.

-
- Update your repository configurations to point to the new dedicated packaging repositories. We’ll provide detailed instructions soon.
- Thoroughly test your systems with the updated repository settings to ensure proper functionality and seamless transition.
- Documentation updates: Our documentation will be updated to reflect these changes.
Benefits of dedicated repositories:
In addition to receiving the latest updates, dedicated repositories may offer:
- Additional features: Access to new tools and software not available in the older repositories.
- Performance optimizations: Potential performance enhancements for a smoother experience – product repositories are smaller than our old repositories, so updating them would take less time to download repository information.
