Today, we are excited to announce that Peter Farkas will serve as Percona’s new Chief Executive Officer, where he will build on the company’s long-standing track record of success with an eye toward continuous innovation and growth.
As a former Perconian with a wealth of technical expertise and over a decade of experience leading successful open source organizations, we are certain that Peter will be right at home at Percona’s helm. His deep knowledge and understanding of the open source database space, along with his passion for the open source movement and its principles, make Peter a natural fit to lead the Percona team. With a shared vision, values, and goals for the company, we are confident that Peter’s appointment will be both a seamless transition and the starting point for an exciting new chapter at Percona.
“I’m honored to be given this opportunity to lead Percona and maintain the values that have made it such a leader in the open source database space for so many years,” Peter said. “Percona has always been near and dear to me—since my early days running Percona’s Support team and all throughout my career since. To come back, especially stepping into this role, is beyond exciting for me. I am committed to continuing to build on Percona’s long legacy of leadership, innovation, and service to its customers and its community. And I can’t wait to see what great things we will achieve together in the months and years to come.”
Peter brings over a decade of experience leading and managing distributed teams on open source projects, with a focus on database and big data technologies. In his new role, Peter will lead the company’s continued expansion and open source innovation. Prior to Percona, Peter served as the CEO and co-founder of FerretDB, an open source MongoDB-compatible database. He has also held key roles at Altinity and Cloudera, driving product innovation and scaling engineering and operations teams.
“This is such an exciting and dynamic time for Percona, and I couldn’t imagine a better fit for this position than Peter,” said Bennie Grant, COO of Percona. “Peter brings a unique combination of deep technical expertise and proven business success in the world of open source databases, both of which will prove invaluable as we continue to innovate and deliver the world-class solutions and services our customers rely on.”
Peter holds a Master’s degree in Management from the University of Buckingham and currently lives in Budapest, Hungary. In his spare time, Peter can be found at high altitudes mountain climbing or tinkering with electronics.
