As enterprise software vendors race toward proprietary cloud ecosystems, some features long relied upon by businesses are being quietly deprecated. One recent example is MongoDB Enterprise Advanced and Atlas dropping support for LDAP authentication, a foundational identity protocol for countless organizations.
At Percona, we’re taking a different path.
We’ve supported LDAP in Percona Server for MongoDB for years, and with this blog post, we reaffirm our long-term commitment to maintaining and enhancing LDAP support in our upcoming Percona Server for MongoDB 9 release and beyond.
For decades, LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) has been a cornerstone for secure, centralized identity and access management across enterprise environments. It’s stable, widely adopted, and deeply integrated with Active Directory or OpenLDAP systems.
While MongoDB Enterprise Advanced and MongoDB Atlas are removing support for LDAP, Percona is doubling down on its value:
- LDAP support will remain a core part of Percona Server for MongoDB 9 and beyond
- Organizations will be able to continue using their existing identity infrastructure without disruption
- You will not be forced into cloud-based identity platforms or vendor-specific tooling. Still, you have the choice, as OpenID Connect support is coming shortly!
Near-zero downtime migrations from MongoDB Enterprise and Atlas
If you’re using LDAP with MongoDB Enterprise Advanced or Atlas today and are concerned about deprecation, we’ve got your back.

Coming soon: OpenID Connect (OIDC) support
Looking toward the future, we’re also expanding our authentication capabilities. In an upcoming release, Percona Server for MongoDB will support OpenID Connect (OIDC), giving you more modern options for federated identity integration with providers like Okta, Keycloak, or Microsoft Entra. You’ll soon be able to choose between LDAP and OIDC, whatever works best for your organization’s architecture. Remember, LDAP isn’t going away in Percona Server for MongoDB, and neither is your freedom to build secure, portable, open infrastructure on your terms.
