MySQL Query Patterns, Optimized

Developing Applications

50 minutes conference
This is a step by step demonstration of methods of complex query development and optimization in MySQL 5.6. When presented with a complex problem, developers struggle to solve it in SQL. Let's face it, a declarative language is powerful, but it can be difficult to visualize the best solutions. Let's get into several common types of queries that developers struggle with, showing alternative SQL solutions, and then use MySQL tools and features to compare them for efficiency. Bill will cover some worthy queries: Exclusion Join, Random Selection, Greatest-Per-Group, Dynamic Pivot, and Relational Division. He'll analyze them with new features in MySQL 5.6 such as extended EXPLAIN output, and performance schema instrumentation.
