MariaDB 10 - The complete tutorial

MariaDB 10 is loaded with lots of new features to increase data integration, performance, availability, scalability and orchestration. This is a hands-on tutorial. The attendees will receive a USB key with handout material, software, examples and a VM that can be used to explore the functionalities of MariaDB 10. We will use Virtual Desktop VMs and AWS instances for lab and tests. It is highly recommend for attendees to bring: - A Windows/OS X/Linux laptop with VirtualBox 4.2 pre-installed - Min 4GB RAM - 20GB of disk space to host the VMs on a local drive We will cover these topics: - MariaDB 10: new features, differences with MariaDB 5.5 and MySQL 5.5/5.6 - Install and run MariaDB 10 - Getting familiar with the changes in the optimizer - MariaDB administration - DATA INTEGRATION - The CONNECT storage engine: what it does, how it works, tests and use cases - SHARDING OUT OF THE BOX - The Spider storage engine: installation, setup and test of the new version - NOSQL INTEGRATION AND SQL INTERFACE - The Cassandra storage engine: setup, use cases - Hands on multi-source replication, Parallel replication and integration with Galera replication - MariaDB Manager: provisioning and integration with external administration tools - …and all the rest that comes with MariaDB 10

Ivan is EVP of Strategy and Products at ScaleDB Inc. He has worked at Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, and he has served as CTO at SkySQL/MariaDB for 4 years. Prior to that, Ivan worked at MySQL AB / Sun / Oracle for 6 years. An IT veteran with 30 years of experience, he has been founder and CTO of various companies, journalist and author of technical books and publications.
Chief Evangelist, Percona
Colin Charles is the Chief Evangelist at Percona. He was previously on the founding team of MariaDB Server in 2009, and had worked at MySQL since 2005, and been a MySQL user since 2000. Before joining MySQL, he worked actively on the Fedora and projects. He's well known within open source communities in APAC, and has spoken at many conferences.
