Time series from collection to analysis - examples and use cases
Time series is a fascinating subject that is becoming more and more interesting and relevant for all the DBAs and Data Architects. Once associated only to a small number of applications, time series-based projects are becoming a need in almost all the online services and applications. In this presentation we will explore some of the most relevant example of time series: systems logs and statistics, application click-streaming, sensors data generation, financial information, social data. Despite their different nature, all these workloads have in common a similar approach to data collection, data storage and analysis. We will cover: - Examples of time series workloads with specific use cases - Time series modelling optimized for collection, storage and analysis - Needs and best practises for alerting, real-time analysis, offline analysis and hybrids - MySQL implementation compared to other databases (Cassandra, Spark, Druid, InfluxDB): pros and cons, data integration and manipulation - Real-time, charting and offline analysis examples
