The techniques used to achieve high availability and fulfill SLA will be detailed: database proxy, resource isolation, security, failover etc. The pitfalls that one should avoid while building up such service will be highlighted. Not only the architecture but also database kernel level enhancements will be introduced. It also includes a comparison of PostgreSQL and MySQL for why and how to deal them differently underneath.
