Percona is a Silver sponsor of Kubecon + CloudNativeCon Europe that will take place in London at April 1st-4th. We welcome everyone to Percona booth #N613. Stop by and talk to our experts about open source databases!
Also, Lori Lorusso, Head of Community, will participate in a panel discussion Stateful Superpowers: Explore High Performance and Scaleable Stateful Workloads on K8.
There is no such thing as a stateless application – All applications need to store state somewhere!
Stateful workloads like databases and key value stores are often deployed outside of K8s, missing out on all the benefits of declarative config, scaling, failover and automatic healing.
In this talk we show how running stateful workloads in K8s is not only performant and scalable but are also resilient, and can facilitate Disaster Recovery.
We will discuss the cloud native ecosystem and provide live demos of:
- Running a million RPS on a KV store with TiKV
- Running scalable, replicated and resilient Postgres databases with CloudNativePG
- Running analytics & ML on a distributed filesystem with CubeFS
… all in K8s, using K8s features to scale, failover and run day 2 operations. Working examples for the demos will be shared to enable the audience to run their own databases and stateful workloads in K8s.
Finally, we will end with a discussion of use cases and best practices.
Also, Lori Lorusso will give a Project Lightning talk A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the CNCF Landscape.
Edith Puclla (Technical Evangelist, Percona) will participate in a panel Activating Community To Grow in Cloud Native at Cloud Native University, co-located event.
How do you know you have what it takes to contribute to a Cloud Native project? While courses and books can provide you with the knowledge needed, it’s daunting to go it alone. Entrusting others from the community to participate in your education, through formal study groups or informal gatherings, can take the guesswork out of knowing when you are ready to contribute back.
In this panel discussion, we’ll bring together a global group of experts for a conversation on the characteristics of a productive learning community, how external engagement can support a culture of resource sharing, and why being able to learn effectively may be a developer’s most important skill. Community-based learning supports a safe environment to take risks, opportunities for greater breadth of learning, and an on-ramp for newcomers to contribute to a project. Join us to discuss the intersection of open source and education, and walk away with the knowledge of how to build and leverage a learning community.
Peter Szczepaniak (Senior Product Manager, Percona) will be presenting a talk Taming PostgreSQL Extensions in Kubernetes: Strategies for Dynamic Management at Data on Kubernetes Day, co-located with Kubecon EU.
Running PostgreSQL in Kubernetes is becoming increasingly popular, but managing database extensions in this environment presents a challenge. Containers are designed to be immutable, making it difficult to add extensions after the database is up and running. Rebuilding containers every time you need a new extension defeats the purpose of using pre-built images with security and best practices baked in. This talk explores different approaches to managing PostgreSQL extensions in Kubernetes, including their pros and cons, and discusses potential future standards for streamlined extension management.
