The challenge
Founded in 2003, Kiho Oy is a fleet and workflow management company that supports more than 1,500 trucking and logistics companies with their vehicle fleets. The marked increase in fuel costs has forced companies to improve their efficiency and make the optimum use of their trucks out in the field.
To achieve these goals, Kiho’s customers rely on the data that Kiho collects from thousands of IoT devices collecting data points from tens of thousands of sensors installed on trucks that provide real-time responses into where vehicles are and what inventory they hold. This data is used to integrate with customers’ accounting, business intelligence and reporting systems, providing real-time insight into how the business is performing.
With data at the heart of Kiho’s operations and value for customers, the company needed a rock-solid platform in place as well as the skills and support to keep that platform running. The team at Kiho currently runs MariaDB to support their applications and services, but with limited resources internally and a deadline to migrate, Jani Lång, Senior Systems Administrator at Kiho, knew that his team had to take a different approach. Lång turned to Percona for support.
The solution
Percona initially provided consultancy around the company’s MariaDB implementation to improve performance and reliability. After six months of working with the team, Lång added Percona Managed Service which offers additional analysis and reporting for its complex database environments. Percona Managed Services provides regular weekly, monthly, quarterly and bi-annual comprehensive database reviews to cover database status updates, pre- and post-release query performance reviews, and support around data growth forecasting.
Working with Percona, Kiho benefits from full support and service around its critical database instances, which interact with every element of the company’s business. Percona provides around-the-clock service monitoring and management for this installation, ensuring that the Kiho team can concentrate on how this data delivers value for customers rather than solely managing infrastructure.
Working with Percona
Lång and the Kiho team rely on Percona Managed Services for support, advice, and guidance around database management. Projects around data have been completed faster and the environment is now both more stable and more efficient.
Kiho is now migrating away from MariaDB to MySQL to keep up with performance requirements and version support.
