Percona Server for MySQL and Percona XtraBackup Now Available for ARM64

We’re excited to announce that both Percona Server for MySQL and Percona XtraBackup now support the ARM64 architecture on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8/9 and Oracle Linux (OL) 8/9. The packages with the aarch64.rpm extension can be found on Percona Software Downloads. The aarch64.rpm file extension indicates that the RPM package is specifically built for the ARM64 architecture and intended for installation on an ARM64-based system.

This addition marks a significant step forward in expanding Percona support to cater to the growing needs of ARM-based systems.

Why ARM64 support matters

ARM64 architecture is increasingly adopted for its efficiency and scalability, particularly in cloud and edge computing environments. By providing support for ARM64, Percona ensures that users on these platforms can benefit from robust backup solutions and high-performance MySQL databases tailored to their specific hardware requirements.

Percona Server for MySQL for ARM64

Starting with Percona Server for MySQL 8.0.33-25 and Percona Server for MySQL Innovation releases, you can download and install packages with the aarch64.rpm extension for ARM-based systems.

Percona XtraBackup for ARM64

Percona XtraBackup 8.0.35-31 and later versions also support downloading and installing packages with the aarch64.rpm extension for ARM-based systems. Whether you’re running Percona Server for MySQL or MySQL itself on ARM64, you can now seamlessly integrate Percona XtraBackup into your backup and recovery strategies.

We recommend that the architectures match. If the server is ARM64, you should also use Percona XtraBackup in ARM64.

Getting started

To start using Percona Server for MySQL or Percona XtraBackup on ARM64 with RHEL 8/9 or OL 8/9, follow these simple steps:

1. Download the aarch64 packages: Go to Percona Software Downloads, select the product and the appropriate version, and download the required aarch64.rpm packages.
2. Install the packages: Follow the installation instructions provided in the Percona Server for MySQL and Percona XtraBackup documentation. The installation process is straightforward and the same as for the x86_64 architecture.
