Percona is glad to announce the release of Percona Server 5.5.36-34.0 on March 10th, 2014 (Downloads are available here and from the Percona Software Repositories). Based on MySQL 5.5.36, including all the bug fixes in it, Percona Server 5.5.36-34.0 is now the current stable release in the 5.5 series. All of Percona‘s software is open-source and free, all the details of the release can be found in the 5.5.36-34.0 milestone at Launchpad.
New Features:
libmysqlclient has been renamed to libperconaserver. The old name was conflicting with the upstream libmysqlclient. Except for packaging, libmysqlclient and libperconaserverclient of the same version do not have any differences. Users wishing to continue using libmysqlclient will have to install the corresponding package of their distribution, such as mysql-lib for CentOS and libmysqlclient18 for Ubuntu/Debian. Users wishing to build software against libperconaserverclient should install libperconaserverclient-dev package. An old version of Percona-built libmysqlclient will be available for download.Bugs Fixed:
univ.i was incorrect. Bug fixed #1277383.
SIGHUP early in the server startup. Bug fixed #1249193 (upstream #62311).
CMake warnings that were happening when Makefile was generated. Bugs fixed #1274827 (upstream #71089).
libmysqlclient18 couldn’t be installed side by side. Bug fixed #1052636.Other bugs fixed: #1005787.
Release notes for Percona Server 5.5.36-34.0 are available in our online documentation. Bugs can be reported on the launchpad bug tracker.

What’s wrong?
Beware on Debian Wheezy (at least): because of this packaging change of libperconaclient18, Debian actually goes to *remove* percona-server-client-5.5 and percona-server-server-5.5 !!
The following packages will be REMOVED: percona-server-client-5.5 percona-server-server-5.5
The following NEW packages will be installed: libperconaserverclient18 mysql-client mysql-client-5.5 mysql-common
We fixed it by re-installing those packages afterward.. which removed again mysql-client and mysql-client-5.5
Start-Date: 2014-03-11 00:11:18

Remove: mysql-client:amd64 (5.5.35+dfsg-0+wheezy1), mysql-client-5.5:amd64 (5.5.35+dfsg-0+wheezy1)
End-Date: 2014-03-11 00:11:23

A bit of a severe change that might be worth mentioning it explicitly in the changelog!

The same mig5 says happen while upgrading in Ubuntu 12.04 server. The updates have been kept back! Then with sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
The following packages will be REMOVED: percona-server-client-5.5 percona-server-server-5.5
The following NEW packages will be installed: libperconaserverclient18 mysql-client mysql-client-5.5 mysql-common
I fixed it by re-installing those packages afterward.. which removed again mysql-client and mysql-client-5.5
The mysql-client-5.5 has been removed only with sudo dpkg –purge mysql-client-5.5
After that in other Ubuntu 12.04 servers i dont make the updtes and they are still kept back
I have just installed 5.5.36-34.1-642.precise, but the UDF libs are still missing
