I’ll be speaking at HighLoad++ conference in Moscow,Russia taking place 6,7 Oct 2008. This conference was quite success with very interesting presentation last year and I’m hoping it would be even better this year.
I also will have a full dayMaster Class focused on Scaling MySQL w Sharding and Replication based on material in our book
Interesting enough this year the conference became two another one being about same topic and very similar name taking place 22-23 September. It also sounds great and it would be hard for me to pick one or another one if not my 10 year wedding anniversary this week which made it impossible for travel.

I was actually quite disappointed with conferences like those after visiting last year (where we met once). Not sure whom it may be interesting to since most of information is already known (e.g. here or in your book), there can be nothing new and in the short presentation it is hard to get into really useful details etc. It is definitely useful for reporters like you, since it is a good practice and some self-advertisement 🙂
This is not just only about MySQL but all technical presentations. Application/business or philosophical ones are usually more interesting.
Still, it is a good place to meet interesting people and establish some contacts. This is probably the most value.

Honestly I’m going mostly for information … and fun. With our customer base this is not the perfect place for advertisement.
I’m also first time called reporter… haha.
Regarding technical presentations I think there is a lot of junk and there is always a lot of it but comparing to presentations on many conferences here in US there was good proportion of “gems” in my opinion.
But you’re right. We may well be looking from the different angles – I’m looking for new technologies and ideas in very broad space because we’re consulting company and have a lot of different customers. If you work on particular project there is much smaller portion which concerns your day to day job.
Actually, I looked at HL++ list of reports and it looks more interesting than I expected. So I will probably go myself 🙂
