Percona Live DC 2012 Venue and Travel
With beautiful granite, limestone and dramatic 100-foot curved glass entry, the new Washington Convention Center is an outstanding architectural and cultural treasure in a city that already harbors so many remarkable buildings. The new Washington Convention Center (opened March 2003) is located between two of the most fascinating neighborhoods in Washington, DC: the historic Shaw / U Street district and the revitalized downtown district.
The Washington Convention Center is easily accessible from the Metro rail system. Proceed to the Mt Vernon Square / Convention Center metro station and you will exit into the building.
If you're making a day trip to the event, we recommend against driving into Washington DC if possible, because traffic can be slow and parking can be hard to find. Instead, use one of the park-and-ride metro stations and use the Metro to travel the rest of the way.
There is no hotel associated with the venue, and we anticipate that most attendees will be local so they will not need accommodations. If you are traveling from out of the area and need a hotel, we can suggest the Renaissance Marriott, the Henley Park Hotel, or the Eldon Luxury Suites. All are well appointed and modern facilities. The Henley Park has a flavor of historical charm, if that is to your taste.
If you need parking, the best bet is to use valet parking at one of the nearby hotels such as those listed above.
