There are challenges in taking an existing infrastructure from a data center to Google Cloud. It is an understatement to say that there are plenty of differences between the two. For our in-house setup, VitalSource uses MHA with MHA-Helper managing the VIP for us. In GCE, we needed to separate the access management from the topology manager. In this lecture, we will discuss the solutions that we reviewed and tested, such as: ProxySQL, MaxScale, MHA, and Orchestrator. We will also explain why we decided to go with our final solution. Allan and Carmen don't just share a last name, they have been working together for over 15 years. Years working together as a team have given them an understanding of each other's strengths. Today, they work for separate companies, though it doesn't seem like it. They share ideas, work through issues together, assist when there's an emergency, and even chime in on each other's team meetings.
