When the Danish SaaS company hit a wall on MongoDB Atlas, disk headroom gone, oplog limits closing in, and no clean path to scale a large, update-heavy workload, Percona was the partner they turned to for a full migration with minimal downtime to a self-managed MongoDB platform on AWS.
For VP of Technology Mads Toustrup-Lønne, the migration had one hard constraint: the cutover had to fit inside a tight downtime window, or it wasn't viable at all.

PriceShape's platform ingests and processes large volumes of product and pricing data to power its price-monitoring service, and the largest collections, product and sales-product data, drive a heavily update-intensive workload. On MongoDB Atlas, that workload ran into a ceiling: no further room to expand disk, and oplog constraints that made a large, fast-growing dataset harder to sustain. Cost was climbing along with it.
Moving to a self-managed platform on AWS was the answer, but the move came with a constraint that could have derailed it: the cutover downtime had to stay inside a tight window. A 6.6 TB workload doesn't move quietly, and a migration that ran long risked disrupting the pricing data PriceShape's customers depend on.
Percona planned and executed the migration from Atlas to Percona Server for MongoDB, deployed on Amazon EKS through the Percona Operator for MongoDB. The team used Percona ClusterSync for MongoDB (PCSM), Percona's own migration tooling, to run an initial full sync followed by continuous change-stream replication, keeping the new environment in lockstep with Atlas until it was time to finalize and cut over.
Partway through the migration, PriceShape's workload triggered two edge-case bugs in the sync tooling, the kind of thing that only shows up at scale. Those fixes were later rolled into the general product release.
With the new environment in place, Percona stood up Percona Monitoring and Management for full cluster visibility and configured Percona Backup for MongoDB for automated backups to Amazon S3.
Percona Managed Services now supports PriceShape's MongoDB environment around the clock, and Toustrup-Lønne has stayed involved through migration planning, the cutover itself, and ongoing operations, including backups, monitoring, and early conversations about sharding. This completely open source infrastructure that doesn't require a monthly subscription and grows with their needs.
He shared, “With Percona we can always get the help and support we need with just a Slack message, and the support engineers take their time reviewing our environment before answering instead of just referring to the documentation. We knew the migration wouldn't be without its hiccups—but Percona quickly involved the relevant persons to help us move forwards as soon as something came up and we completed the migration without impacting our customers.”
The next step in giving PriceShape a platform it can keep growing into rather than one it has to fight against.
