Pep Pla – The PostgreSQL Versus MySQL – Isn’t A Database Just a Database
Two databases, alike in stature, both started by a man named Michael over two decades ago. And databases are all the same, so you can pick either, right? Wrong. MySQL and PostgreSQL are open-source databases that from a very high viewpoint seem to do the same thing. However, subtle and non-subtle differences can severely impact your project. There are features missing in one that is in the other (JSON_TABLE() and MERGER(), for example) that will change the way you handle your data. Administration for either choice needs special skills and backups can potentially cause you great angst. So how do you pick ‘THE ONE’ for your needs? Where are the pain points that you need to avoid? This session will guide you in your decision-making by fully explaining the differences so that you will have the database you truly desire.
