Testing MySQL Databases: The State Of The Art

While MySQL systems power a lot of the world, how much do you really know about how they are tested? This session will provide an overview of several functional testing tools available for MySQL-based systems, with a focus on mysql-test-run, the random query generator (randgen), and dbqp / kewpie.

Topics will include the history, function, and usage of each system with the goal being to both inform attendees about how their favorite dbms is tested and to show them new ways to test their own systems.

Sr. QA Engineer, Percona

Patrick has been working as a QA Engineer in the MySQL world since 2007. In that time, he has worked for MySQL AB, Sun Microsystems, and Oracle.

His work as a member of the Drizzle development team included testing a number of major features for the project's first GA release.

Currently a Sr. QA Engineer at Percona, Patrick continues to hone his skills with various QA tools such as the random query generator, mysql-test-run, and the testing platform he developed for Drizzle (and has since ported to Percona / MySQL servers), dbqp.
