Percona Live London 2011 Tutorial Schedule

Percona Live London is a 2 day event starting on Oct. 24th with tutorials followed by a day of conference sessions on Oct. 25th.

The tutorials being offered are from well-known experts and cover a range of subjects from NDB Cluster to Innodb Architecture and Performance Optimization. Tutorials are immediate and practical applications of in depth presentations which are between training classes and conference presentations. Attendees are expected to have their laptops to work through these long, detailed and often hands on presentations. Tutorials run 3-6 hours.

NDB Cluster - Part I The NDB tutorial is a full day course covering all the main aspects of an NDB based database solution. Theoretical notions are balanced with hands-on exercices in local Virtualbox images. Among items covered are: NDB architecture, installation, configuration, loading data, common management task, monitoring, query/schema tuning, replication to NDB and InnoDB, NDB as a sharding solution and online scaling.»
Walbrook Suite:
MySQL For Developers - Part I Aimed towards developers who want to learn more about mysql. You will learn to: Understand indexing, created proper schema's; Query optimization; Storage Engines/InnoDB Basics; General MySQL configuration and troubleshooting.»
Ludgate Suite:
Innodb Architecture and Performance Optimization This presentation cover the most important aspects of Innodb and XtraDB architecture as well as teach you to use them to archive best application performance and avoid bottlenecks. We will also look at Innodb settings corresponding to different architectural aspects.»

Scaling LAMP - Part I During this tutorial we will cover various topics related to high scalability for the LAMP stack. This workshop is divided into three sections. The first section covers basic principles of shared nothing architectures and horizontal scaling for the app//cache/database tiers.»

Linux and H/W optimizations for MySQL Choosing right Hardware components, configuring them properly, and optimizing Linux settings are very important for MySQL and other database server deployments. But they are frequently overlooked. I have seen many cases that H/W and Linux settings were wrongly configured on production environments. Changing configurations after going live is not easy. Some Linux settings such as I/O scheduler can be changed dynamically, but many of the settings can not be changed without stopping MySQL. It is important for infrastructure engineers to understand Linux and H/W tuning and monitoring best practices. Learning best practices will certainly improve performance and stability. This tutorial will be based on what the speaker had a presentation at the MySQL Conference and Expo 2011, but will add many hot topics after that.»

Advanced MySQL Scaling Strategies for Developers This tutorial is targeted at the professional developer who wants to get the very best out of MySQL. We will discuss simple to advanced caching methods. Manipulating time to make queries run faster. Getting an overview of the queries that are run on the database and discuss strategies you can use to speed them up. For many developers upgrading hardware, changing mysql settings or moving to newer MySQL Server Version are out of immediate reach and require complex approval processes. This talk is designed to focus on the 20% of the issues that cause 80% of the performance problems and that is to do with how your application uses your database. Warning: the things in this talk can be used in cloud environments!»

Scaling LAMP - Part II Continuing on from Part I: Section two of this tutorial is devoted to MySQL sharding techniques, queues and a few performance-related tips and tricks. In section three we will cover the practical approach for measuring site performance and quality, porviding a "lean" support philosophy, connecting buesiness and technology metrics.<br /> In addition we will cover a very useful Pinba real-time statistical server, it's features and various use cases. All of the sections will be based on real-world examples built in Badoo, one of the biggest dating sites on the Internet.»

MySQL High Availability Sprint: Launch the Pacemaker! In this tutorial, Florian will explore the quick and easy way to set up MySQL high availability. In a 2-node high availability cluster, Florian will walk you through setting up DRBD storage replication, Pacemaker high availability, and MySQL as a highly available, failure monitored, automatically recovering cluster resource. This is the simplest, quickest and easiest way to set up MySQL high availability in Pacemaker clusters, and can be accomplished by an experienced sysadmin in an hour or less.»
