Dynamic Topics for Keynote, Lightning Talks and MySQL 101 Sessions Announced

DURHAM, North Carolina – March 5, 2015Percona, the company that makes MySQL and OpenStack faster and more reliable, today announced that Steve Wozniak, the Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist known as “The Woz,” will participate in a moderated Q&A on creativity and innovation at the fourth annual Percona Live MySQL Conference & Expo 2015 to be held April 13-16, 2015, at The Hyatt Regency Santa Clara and Santa Clara Convention Center. The Woz will be speaking on April 14, 2015. The Percona Live MySQL Conference and Expo has become the one true MySQL “must attend” event each year, and with the participation of The Woz and other industry luminaries, the 2015 event promises to be the most exciting ever, with a broad range of talks and tutorials by industry experts, along with fun and informative networking events.

Every Percona Live MySQL Conference is full of intense energy as everyone from experts to novices gather to discuss one of the key technologies helping companies around the world transition to high-scale analytics. In addition to the conference sessions, participants can enjoy learning from, sharing with, and just getting to know nearly every important player in the MySQL industry.

Facebook Keynote

Harrison Fisk, Member of the Facebook Database Performance Team, will be among a select list of industry luminaries selected to deliver one of the conference keynotes. “Polyglot Persistence @ Facebook” will explore why Facebook has so many different data solutions deployed at scale and how the company decides to deploy a new one. Fisk will also discuss how Facebook is able to manage all these solutions and what types of optimizations are possible across all the data systems.

MySQL 101 Sessions Announced

Percona has announced the schedule for MySQL 101, an exciting new program that will take place on Wednesday and Thursday of the conference.

Largely driven by the broad demand for (and scarcity of) MySQL expertise across many industries, Percona Live is adding dual tracks for both developers and system administrators that will provide a two-day course on MySQL fundamentals. Hand-picked, industry recognized, instructors will walk developers, sys admins and other technical staff through two days of practical training and include everything they need to know to handle day-to-day MySQL DBA tasks, saving the company time and money and eliminating expensive errors. The motto of this track is, “You send us developers and admins, and we will send you back MySQL DBAs.”

Lightning Talks and Birds of a Feather Sessions (BOFs)

Percona has announced the schedules for these crowd-favorite events.

Lightning Talks – Always entertaining, Lightning Talks provide an opportunity for attendees to propose, explain, exhort, and rant on any MySQL-related topic for five minutes. Lightning Talks will take place Wednesday night, April 15, 2015, during the MySQL Community Networking Reception, which begins immediately following the breakout sessions. This year’s topics include:

  • “Working From Home - Fun, Facts and Scares” presented by Raghavendra Prabhu, Product Lead, Percona XtraDB Cluster at Percona
  • “The Future of MySQL Quality Assurance: Introducing pquery” presented by Roel Van de Paar, Senior QA Lead, and Ramesh Sivaraman, Jr. QA Engineer at Percona

Birds of a Feather sessions enable attendees with interests in the same project or topic to enjoy some quality face time. The BOF sessions will take place Tuesday night, April 14, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This year’s topics include:

  • “Everything About MySQL Bugs” presented by Seta Smirnova, Senior Principal Technical Support Engineer, and Valerii Kravchuk, Principle Support Engineer at Percona
  • “MySQL Galera Cluster, Percona XtraDB Cluster, and MariaDB Galera Cluster” presented by Jay Janseen, Managing Consultant at Percona
  • “Data Security – Emerging Legal Trends” presented by S. Keith Moulsdale, Partner at Whiteford, Taylor & Preston, LLP
  • “WebScaleSQL Meeting/Hacking” presented by Steaphan Greene, Software Engineer at WebScaleSQL

Community Reception

One of the most compelling aspects of the Percona Live MySQL Conference and Expo is the networking that takes place, providing the opportunity to make connections that can help enhance a career, facilitate a current project, or inspire new ideas. This year’s conference features the Community Networking Reception in the Expo Hall on Wednesday, April 15, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event will include the MySQL Community Awards and the Lightning Talks.
