Description

In 2013 Uber switched its relational database technology from MySQL 5.1 to Postgres 9.2. After running our business on Postgres for about two years we made the decision to migrate back to MySQL. Today most of Uber's fleet runs on Percona 5.6, with only a small amount of legacy services still on Postgres. In this presentation I will talk about the decision making process that went behind the initial switch to Postgres, and also the switch back. The focus will be on the technical design aspects of Postgres and MySQL that made us decide that MySQL is the right storage solution for Uber. The content in this presentation will be an expanded version of the Uber Engineering blog post at https://eng.uber.com/mysql-migration/
