How Rakuten Reduced Database Management Costs by 90%

4 December 09:50 - 10:10 @ Orchard 1

Rakuten, Inc. is one of the world’s leading Internet service companies and ranks among the top 10 Internet companies in the world. Rakuten provides a variety of consumer- and business-focused services including e-commerce, e-reading, travel, banking, securities, credit card, e-money, media and online marketing.

In order to keep up with rapid growth, the company was spending substantial amounts of money on MySQL database servers and storage, as well as the management and maintenance of those systems. Additionally, the company had to deploy twice the storage to ensure fault tolerance and a good user experience for their customers, resulting in over 1,100 MySQL databases running in production. This keynote will discuss how Rakuten is leveraging Clustrix to gain a competitive advantage by consolidating MySQL instances onto a private cloud DBaaS architecture that is both fault tolerant and highly scalable.
