Optimizer: What’s New in 5.7, JSON and More.....
There are substantial improvements in optimizer in MySQL 5.7. Most noticeably, users can now combine relational data with noSQL. A new JSON datatype has been introduced. Users can easily search and manipulate JSON documents with the help of built-in JSON functions. Functional indexes are now supported through both stored and virtual generated columns. On the performance side, MySQL can avoid creating temporary tables for UNION ALL, do more-efficient sorting, enable range scans on IN queries with row value expressions, make use of condition filtering, and more. Beyond performance improvements, DBAs’ lives now become easier. It is possible to run EXPLAIN on a running query, and MySQL provides a new query rewrite plug-in for handling potential performance regressions. Come to this session to learn how you can leverage these new features. We will also take a sneak peek at 5.8 at the end.
