Monitoring Databases At Scale (Come ask the experts!)

Monitoring Databases At Scale (Come ask the experts!)

 20 April 03:30 PM - 04:20 PM @ Ballroom H
Experience level:
50 minutes conference

Jeremy and Charity have built monitoring systems for a positively stupid number of databases. We will give a ~20 minute overview of some common best practices over the lifecycle of a company, from the first day of your startup to a publicly traded company at scale, and then open it up for audience stories and Q&A for the rest of the slot time. (Come for the best practices, stay for the war stories, facepalmy tales of doom and sheepish mutterings about things we have yet to get right!)

Cofounder/CEO, Honeycomb

CEO/cofounder of Honeycomb combines the raw accuracy of log aggregators, the speed of time series metrics, and the flexibility of APM (application performance metrics) to provide the world's first truly next-generation analytics service. Previously ran operations at Parse/Facebook, managing a massive fleet of MongoDB replica sets as well as Redis, Cassandra, and MySQL. Worked closely with the RocksDB team at Facebook to develop and roll out the world's first Mongo+Rocks deployment using the pluggable storage engine API.

Staff MySQL Operations Engineer,

In 1999, I fell into this MySQL thing and been going strong ever since. I'm currently a Senior MySQL Operations Engineer at Etsy, Inc. Prior to Etsy, I was a MySQL wizard at GoDaddy working with 10k+ instances. I like sleeping without being paged, making databases run really fast and I occasionally get on a soapbox on monitoring.
