Senior Developer, Database Tools Specialist
Daniel joined Percona in July 2008 to work on Maatkit, which is now Percona Toolkit. He began creating and publishing MySQL tools at Hack MySQL in 2005, during his previous job as Unix sysadmin, because few tools existed at the time. At the 2010 MySQL Conference & Expo, Daniel was named the Community Contributor of the Year for his work on Maatkit. He has also contributed to open-source projects like Drizzle, and created new solutions like a TAP producer for Bash and a smaller, faster 95th percentile algorithm.
Daniel holds a bachelor's degree in Philosophy (cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and a master's degree in French (summa cum laude), both from the University of Wyoming. He still lives in Wyoming, in a mountain valley 7,200 feet (2,194 meters) above sea level where the long winters give him ample time to program database tools, wax philosophically, and ponder French literature.
