Upgrading from MySQL 5.0 to 5.5

This talk will describe the processes we used at New Relic to upgrade from 5.0 to 5.5. Since we provide real time application performance analytics we could not afford any lengthy downtime. We also had some interesting technical restraints that had to be overcome.This talk will describe the planning, testing, replication upgrade processes.

I have been doing Ops and IT for about 17 years. I have focused almost exclusively on rapid growth start ups. I went through various specialties, sysadmin, DBA, network before taking that blue pill and becoming a manager. I have been working at New Relic for a bit over 4 years. During that time the company has grown from 6 to 110 people and we are now serving 1.2 million requests a minute.
