  • Why xtrabackup is so slow compared to a single cp ?

IM experiencing a vast difference in copy time when I compare the ibdata creation rate in xtrabackup compared to a single cp.. why is that?

    Some info:
    xtrabackup: 14GB/hour (4MB/s)
    cp: 120GB/hour (33MB/s)

Its the same machine and same disks

        Hi,

It's happening possibly due to "ibdata is being read and write" OR "I/O is saturated with changes log copying activity" while running xtrabackup. It would be more helpful if you can provide some more details like I/O stats and command lines which you are running for backup.
