Daniel Nichter

Senior Developer, Database Tools Specialist
Daniel joined Percona in August 2008 to work on Maatkit and other Perl-based MySQL tools. He has been a professional and hobbyist programmer for over 10 years, having learned Pascal, C, C++, PHP, Perl, and now a little Python. In his previous job as a Unix system administrator at The Planet, he became interested in Perl and MySQL and the lack of tools available for the latter. So he began writing his own tools and publishing them at Hack MySQL until refocusing his efforts on Maatkit. At the 2010 MySQL Conference & Expose, Daniel was named the Community Contributor of the Year for his work on Maatkit.
Daniel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, with minors in religious studies and French, from the University of Wyoming, where he graduated cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa in 2009. He is currently working on a Ph.D. in French Studies. He still lives in Wyoming, in a mountain valley 7,200 feet (2,194 meters) above sea level, where the long winters give him ample time to study and program.
